Formula 1 – Qualifying – Hungarian Grand Prix

Qualifying for tomorrow’s 70 lap Hungarian Grand Prix has just been completed. Fernando Alonso of Renault has qualified on pole position for the first time this season. Alonso set the fastest time of 1:21.313 for the Q3 session on the 4.381km long Hungaroring circuit.

Sebastian Vettel qualified in second place, 0.038 seconds behind Alonso, put him on the front row for the race tomorrow.

Australia’s Mark Webber, qualified in 3rd place, 0.172 seconds behind Alonso. Mark Webber driving his RB5 also topped the time sheets in Q2. Felipe Massa’s Ferrari crashed heavily into a tyre barrier in the closing moments of Q2 after a stray object struck Massa in the head.

At the end of Q1 Williams driver Nico Rosberg topped the time sheets. Towards the end of Q1 the Toro Rosso car driven by new driver Jaime Alguersuari came to a stop on the run off area of corner 13.
