At a xbox360 event held in Sydney today, it has been announced that 8 V8 Supercars will feature in the upcoming release of Forza Motorsports 3. There will be four Ford Falcons, and four Holden Commodores.

Campbell Simpson from Good Gear Guide attended the event, and has the full details, plus some pretty screenshots here.

Forza Motorsports 3 is schedule for a 22nd of October release. I cannot wait!

Indycar driver and Toowoomba boy Will Power has been hospitalised after an accident during a practice session for the Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma at Infineon Raceway. is reporting that Will Power has suffered compression fractures of his L2 and L4 vertebrae.

Power collided with a spun out car that was being driven by Nelson Philippe. Philippe’s car spun just over the crest of a hill, and from footage, it appears that Power didn’t have enough sight distance to avoid colliding with Philippe’s car.

Hopefully Power can make a speedy recovery.

Modernist Petrol Station

Oobject has put together a collection of photos of Modernist Petrol Stations for around the place.

The collection includes petrol stations designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and Norman Foster.

Check out the collection here.

As discovered from a Gizmodo post, Google Maps now has parts of the famous Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca as street view. This is awesome! Check it out below.

Today I went out to Morgan Park Raceway, for the final day of Round 7 of the Shannon’s Nationals.

It’s the first time I’ve been to Morgan Park, which is on the outskirts of Warwick. It’s a great circuit, and there was some great racing. On show was the Superkarts, Porsche GT3 Cup, Sports Sedans along with the Australian Manufacturers Championship.

Highlights will be shown on Speedweek on SBS on Sunday 16th of August at 1pm

I took a few videos and plenty of pictures. Check them out below.

I’m not really a Halo kind of guy. In fact I can’t really stand Halo (especially Halo Wars); however a life size Halo Warthog is in Sydney at the moment, and Gizmodo have a neat article on it.

Check out the article here.

If you’re in Sydney you can check the Warthog for yourself. Details here.

In what appears to be a bit of a recurring trend I attended another Busway opening today. This time it was the Boggo Road Busway which links the Princess Alexandra Hospital to the Eleanor Schonell Bridge and the St Lucia campus of the University of Queensland.

The Boggo Road Busway was a $226 million dollar project constructed by Thiess. The busway is comprised of two stations, two tunnels, and travels under the former Boggo Road Gaol, which was infamous for housing some of Australia’s most dangerous criminals.

There is a station at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, and another adjacent to Park Road Railway Station, which for some reason is called Boggo Road Station, just to make it a little bit confusing for people.

One of the tunnels is a driven tunnel, which is 630 metres long. The second tunnel is of a shorter length and is a cut and cover tunnel.

Between the Boggo Road Station and the Princess Alexandra Hospital Station, one of the retaining walls has some artwork installed on the wall (see the pictures below). The artists for the installation were Amanda Harris and Alanah Walker. Apparently the artwork is:

“is reflective of the origins of the word boggo, which is possibly derived from the word bloggo, thought to be from the local indigenous language and meaning two leaning trees”.

I liked the art, although I though it looked like butterflies.

I took some pictures. Check them out below.

Street Sign Art

July 31, 2009

When I was at uni I had a friend who liked to steal street signs and then hang them up as “art” on the walls of his share house.

As much as I like street signs (which is a lot), I never understood the desire to steal them and hang them on the wall of the house as art, but for those that do, now you can get your fix of street sign art legally, as Chris Lavelanet, of design firm CL Designs has released a series of illuminated road signs as wall mounted or table top feature pieces for your home decor.
